Agaves are amazing exotic, extremley drought tolerant plants. Native to Mexico and the North, Central and South of the United States, they are a very popular ornamental plants in the UK.
The Agave Desmettiana 'Variegata' is a medium size variety of Agave. It is a very oranamental and pretty agave. It's elegantly curving narrow sword shaped leaves are arranged in urn shaped rosettes, bright green with yellow coloured margins. Marginal teeth are few if non-exsistant. Flowers when mature between 10-15 years and then dies leaving the many offsets. Tall branched flower spikes have clusters of pale yellow blooms.
Easy to grow, it is tolerant of coastal positions, but will need some winter protection. A great addition for any garden, it's bold silhouette makes a wonderful architectural centrepiece.

Growth: Evergreen. Succulent. Dense rosettes of narrow sword shaped arching leaves. Bright green with yellow margins.Few or no marginal teeth. Plants sucker freely. Flower usually after 10 years or more.
Sun: Sun/partial shade.
Exposure: Sheltered.
Soil: Well drained, plenty of gravel.
Moisture: Water very little. Allow soil to dry before re-watering. Dry in winter.
