Albizia Julibrissin 'Ombrella'. Silk Tree.

The Albizia Julibrissin 'Ombrella', more commonly known as the Silk Tree is very showy looking producing amazing exotic looking flowers. Flowering from an early age sprays of long silky pink stamens, sometimes white or yellowish in the centre, are produced in clusters at the ends of the branches from July to September. Closing at night and re-opening through the day these beautifully scented flowers can attract butterflies and bees to your garden too. The leaves are equally attractive being a bold green and pinnately divided resembling delicate feathers or ferns in shape. Naturally developing a pleasing broad dome shape, very little pruning is necessary and little maintenance is needed to bring a feeling of the mediterranean to your gardenwith these tropical looking trees. 

Deciduous but perfectly hardy in the UK.

    Common Name: Persian Acacia. Silk Tree 

    Origin: Iran to Japan.

    Hardiness: -12 degrees or lower.

    Growth Characteristics: Deciduous. Clusters of scented flowers at the ends of the stems between July and Sept. Blooms are sprays of very showy long pink silkly stamens. Bold green pinnately divided leaves. Naturally develops an umbrella shaped crown. Small to moderately sized tree. Low maintenance.   

    Sunlight: Full sun/partial shade.

    Exposure: Sheltered from wind. 

    Soil: Not fussy as long as it is well drained soil. 

    Moisture: Keep moist. 

    Feeding: Feed with a balanced fertilizer in Spring.
