Alocasia Macrorrhiza. Giant Taro.

The Alocasia Macrorrhiza is one of the largest Alocasia. Also know as the Giant Taro and Borneo Giant it is a very impressive and imposing plant. Gigantic leaves, lush green in colour can reach up to 1M in length and are arrow shaped with prominent veins. The leaves point upwards and sit on rigid leaf petioles which themselves can be up to 130cm and grow vertically from a stout upright trunk. This impressive foliage and spectacular provides a wonderful tropical effect in any garden. More tolerant of the cold than colocasia in the UK it will retain its leaves longer into the colder months. Great for growing in containers and placing into a border through summer to give it a tropical look and then moving indoors through winter. Alternatively their spectacular foliage makes them a striking houseplant.
