Annona Cherimola. Custard Apple Trees.

The Annona Cherimola, usually known as the Custard Apple is an upright tree often with low branches. The oval shaped leaves are a lush green in colour and velvety on the undersides. Fragrant flowers are greenish to pale yellow in colour with a purple spot at their base, usually solitary but sometimes can occur in a group of 2 or 3pretty. The fruit can be variable in shape from heart shaped to rounded with inedible peal being scaly similar in appearance to that of an artichoke. The deliciously aromatic flesh is creamy and soft like custard hence it's common name of 'Custard Apple'.  The sweet flavour has been likened to a mix of pineapple, pear with hints of mango. The fleshy pulp is easily separated from the seeds which need to removed before eating as they are toxic. Can be eatern raw or  great for making cakes and ice cream in summer too.
