Archontophoenix Cunninghamiana 'Illawara'
The Archontophoenix Cunninghamiana 'Illawara' Palm comes from the mountainous coastal region New South Wales in Australia. It is a stately and tropical looking palm. 8-10 long and arching, green-dark-green, feather-like leaves with drooping leaflets crown a smooth and slender, solitary trunk, ringed with leaf scars. When mature the larger distance between these leaf scars distinguishes the 'Illawara' from the normal Archotophoenix Cunninghamiana. The new emerging leaves can slso have a coppery or bronzy tint.
Better grown in a warm conservatory or atrium as it is only tolerant of a light frost. A beautiful and elegant palm which is difficult to find.
