Dicksonia Antarctica. Multi-trunks.

The Dicksonia Antarctica or Soft Tree Fern is an amazing plant and perfect for shady areas. These multi-trunked Ferns are extra special and hard to find. These multi-trunks are from Tasmania, are all tagged and are extremely good quality.
It's thick trunk is densley covered with matted aerial roots and is very slow growing, between 1-5cm a year. In contrast it's amazing fronds soon spring from the crown growing incredibly quickly, given enough water and Tree Fern Feed. Not many plants can match the elegance of this Tree Fern.
It prefers a shady spot spot, but if planted in a sunny position, it will need more water. The most important thing is to keep the trunk moist.
Trunk hardy down to -10 degrees for short periods, but it will need protection in prolonged winter freezing. In winter protect the crown with handful of straw to prevent snow and ice settling. Wrap the trunk and fronds with layers of fleece.

With the popularity of Tree Ferns increasing in the UK sustainability is very important. At The Palm Tree Company all of our Dicksonia Antarctica are all tagged and come from sustainable sources.(see tag image).
