The Ferocactus Glaucescens var Inermis is the spineless version or Ferocactus Glaucescens. It is a very attractive Cactus a striking bluish-green in colour. Slow growing, it is more barrel shaped when young becoming more columnar as it matures. It can be solitary but quite often as the plant ages multiple new heads can be produced at the base forming a large mound. There are 11-15 prominent acute ribs with spines present in young plants but these disappear as it matures. Lemon-yellow coloured funnel shaped flowers are about 3-4cm in diameter lasting for quite a time, followed by white coloured fruit. This really is a striking cactus and perfect for Cacti enthusiasts. Very difficult to find for sale at this size in the UK.

Common Name: Blue Barrel Cactus. Nude Blue Barrel Cactus.
Origin: Eastern Central Mexico.
Hardiness: Frost tender. Keep above freezing.
Growth Characteristics: Very showy barrel Cactus bluish-green in colour. 11-15 acute ribs. Possible spines only when young. Solitary or can be basal suckering. Long lasting lemony-yellow coloured flowers 3-4cm in diameter appear when barrels are mature. White fruit. Slow growing.
Sun: Full sun.
Exposure: Sheltered.
Soil: Fast draining soil. Gritty.
Moisture: Water around every 7 days in growing season. Needs a little more water than some varieties of cacti. Keep completely dry in winter.
