The Ficus Benghalensis, more commonly known as the Banyan Fig is native to the Indian Subcontinent but in the UK is grown as a very stylish and modern looking houseplant. Broad and sturdy leathery oval shaped leaves are glossy green in colour with prominent pale pink-green veins. Young leaves are flushed an attractive bronze colour.
Aerial roots are producted quite often aand hang down to the ground forming secondary trunks
One of the most effective plants for filtering and purifying air, this very 'trendy' plant is a great for providing a focal point in either office or home.
Easy to care for, liking bright indirect light. Shoot tips can be 'pinched back' to promote branching and help keep it to the sizes prefered. May be placed outside during summer. Please be aware the sap can be an irritant.

Latin Name: Ficus Benghalensis.
Common Name: Banyan Fig. Banyan. Ficus Indica. Indian Banyan. Bo Tree.
Origin: Indian Subcontinenent.
Hardiness: Frost tender. Houseplant. Can be put outside in Summer and brought in during Winter.
Growth Characteristics: Evergreen tree. Large leathery glossy oval shaped green leaves with prominent veins pale pink-green. Young leaves are flushed bronze. Aerial roots drop down. Air purifying plant. Plant sap can be an irritant.
Sunlight: Bright indirect light.
Exposure: Indoor Houseplant.
Soil: Rich. Well drained soil.
Moisture: Water well then allow top 2 inches of soil to dry before re-watering. Do notallow to sit in water. Mist leaves occasionally. Wipe leaves with a damp sponge or cloth to keep foliage glossy.
Feeding: Feed once a month through summer with a half strength liquid feed.
