Gunnera Manicata. Brazilian Giant Rhubarb.
The Gunnera Manicata is a clump forming and very tough herbaceous perennial which grows well in the UK. A real statement plant, the huge rough textured deeply lobed leaves can reach sizes of 6ft or more across, given suitable conditions. Liking shade and continuosly damp conditions this unique plant brings a dramatic and tropical look to the garden.
Around November the leaves should be cut off and piled onto the centre crown which will protect and insulate against the cold until spring when it can be uncovered to allow new growth to begin.

    Hardiness: Root hardy to -10 or lower.

    Growth Characteristics: Very impressive huge deeply lobed rough textured leaves with spiney stems. Grows up to 8ft tall but can be easily trimmed with no damage.Will lose leaves in winter. Easy to grow. 

    Sunlight: Shade/Partial shade.

    Exposure: Sheltered.

    Soil: Poorly drained, permanently moist.

    Moisture: Water regularlyand keep wet/moist in growing season.

    Feeding: Feed a balanced liquid fertilizer through growing season .
