Indocalamus Tessellatus. Large Leaved Bamboo.
Indocalamus Tessellatus commonly known as Large Leaved Bamboo is a very dramatic and decorative bamboo. Hardy down to -15 or lower, it has slender bright green canes and lance shaped glossy green leaves up to 60cm long and between 5-10cm wide, the largest leaves of all the hardy Bamboo varieties. However this evergreen variety only grows to between 1-2m 2 high, but definately tall enough to bring a lush jungle look to any garden.
Although the this variety of Bamboo usually has a clump forming habit in favourable conditions it may spread in which case a Bamboo Root Barrier can be used. Alternatively it looks just as dramatic planted in a container.
Has gained the RHS Award of Garden Merit.
