The Mammillaria Hahniana Cactus is a clump forming variety of cacti where the young specimens are a more rounded shape and more mature plants take on a barrel form. Commonly called the Old Lady Cactus the green stems are densley covered in white bristles and thin white flexible hairs.Even when young this pretty cactus flowers abundantly with violet-red to pink flowers which are followerd by small edible fruit. This really is a striking cactus and perfect for Cacti enthusiasts. Very difficult to find for sale at this size in the UK.

Latin Name: Mammillaria Hahniana.
Common Name: Old Lady Cactus, Old Lady of Mexico, Old Lady Pincushion, Birthday Cake Cactus.
Origin: Guanajuato, San Louis Potosi, Mexico.
Hardiness: -5 if dry but best keep above freezing to avoid blemishes.
Growth Characteristics: Very showy clump forming Cactus. Dense white bristles and fine spines. Grows up to 20cm in height. Violet-red to pink coloured flowers up to 1cm in length. Edible fruit.
Sun: Full sun.
Exposure: Sheltered.
Soil: Fast draining soil. Gritty.
Moisture: Water regularly in summer. Dry in winter.
