Musa Dajiao.
The Musa Dajiao is a cross between Musa Sikkimensis and Musa Balbisiana. Huge exotic sail-like leaves, slightly firmer than those of the Musa Basjoo are lush green in colour with a whitish bloom on their undersides giving instant impact and a sense of the jungle.
Capable of producing edible bananas, but the plant does not bloom until at least 2 years old so the plant must be kept frost free over winter allowing growth all year for this to happen. The bananas can be eaten fresh or used in cooking. In China this variety of Banana is cultivated especially for its fruit.
Fast growing and easy to grow just water and feed generously during the growing season. Relatively root hardy it can be left in the garden, mulched and wrapped or dug up and stored dry in winter.
Best kept sheltered from strong winds to avoid the leaves shredding.
