Musa Velutina. Pink Banana.  

The Musa Velutina brings an amazing tropical feeling to your garden. Slender stems with large exotic paddle shaped lush green leaves, give an instant impact and a sense of the jungle. Flowering at a young age usually within it's first year a an arching spike of showy pink flowers with pink bracts is produced, followed by pink fruit covered in velvety hairs. When ripe the fruit actually peels itself. It is edible and sweet but has a large amount if black seeds in it. Rarely exceeds 2.5m tall so great for the smaller gardens too. Suckers freely.

Fast growing and easy to grow just water and feed generously during the growing season. Root hardy in much of the UK. Best kept sheltered from strong winds to avoid the leaves shredding.

    Origin: Assam. Eastern Himalayas

    Hardiness: Root hardy. - 5 with protection.

    Growth: Fast growing. Rarely exceeds 2.5m tall. Exotic paddle-shaped leaves, lush green in colour. Ornamental, large pink flower with pink bracts. Pink edible bananas with many black seeds covered with velvety hairs. Easy to grow. Can be container grown.

    Sun: Full sun/partial shade.

    Exposure: Sheltered.

    Soil: Well drained soil.

    Moisture: Water well in summer.

    Feed: Feed weekly in the growing season with high nitrogen feed.
