Opuntia Vestida Cactus. Old Man Opuntia. 
The Opuntia Vestida is a branching shrubby Cactus forming a dense clumps up to 60cm tall. Stems are columnar and can branch from both the base and top of the stems. A very furry cactus densely covered with white hair which is actually modified spines, however there are a few thin white spines up to 1cm long. Thin green leaves are also present and can last all summer if watered regularly through this period.

Numerous beautiful flowers develop at the top of the stems in late Spring, a deep red or violet in colour followerd by edible fruits.

Very easy to keep, great for growing in pots and needs minimal maintenance. In habitat they grow at high altitudes on grasslands and barren hills.

    Common Name: Old Man Opuntia. Cotton Pole. Cotton Coral Cactus.  

    Origin: Bolivia.

    Hardiness: Frost tender.

    Growth Characteristics: Slow growing shrubby branching Cactus. Very furry Cactus with sparse white spines up to 1cm long. Small thin leaves. Numerous flowers on the top of stems are red to violet in colour. Edible fruits.

    Sun: Full sun/partial shade.

    Exposure: Sheltered.

    Soil: Well drained soil. Gritty. 

    Moisture: Water around every 10-14 days during growing season.. Allow to dry between waterings. Keep dry in winter.
