Paulownia Tomentosa. Foxglove Tree.
The Paulownia Tomentosa is extremely fast growing with very impressive huge heart shaped leaves in opposite pairs along the stem up to 50cm across, coated in hairs on both surfaces. On young stems the leaves tend to be larger which is why many people prune them heavily to produce vigorous growth and keep the gigantic leaves. Left to mature the trees bear striking upright panicles of very delicately scented lilac-purple flowers resembling foxgloves which can appear either before the leaves in a dry Spring or at the same time in a wet one.
This showy tree brings masses of character to gardens, courtyards and city gardens as well as making great container plants for patios, conservatories and greenhouses.
Awarded the Royal Horticultural Society's Award Of Garden Merit.
