Phyllostachys Vivax Aureocaulis. Golden Chinese Timber Bamboo.
Phyllostachys Vivax Aureocaulis or Golden Chinese Timber Bamboo is a very large graceful and impressive giant bamboo. Growing up to 30ft in height with upright canes of diameter up to 13cm. Fully hardy down to -21 degrees, it's tall, strong, canes mature to become a golden yellow randomly striped with green, although it is possible to have a solid yellow or green colour. Dense lush dark green leaves (which can occasionally have a creamy-yellow stripe) are great for providing both a visual and a sound barrier in the shape of a hedge. Alternatively they look spectacular as a single specimen plant.
Although the Vivax Aureocaulis Bamboo is classed as a spreading bamboo in warm, moist climates it initially behaves itself in the UK climate and may even become clump forming in poor soil, but a non perishable bamboo barrier can be used. Has received the RHS Award Of Garden Merit.
