Ravenala Madagascariensis. Travellers Palm
The Ravenala Madagascariensis has enormous paddle shaped banana-like leaves on long stalks all aligned on a single plane, giving the whole plant an appearnce of a huge fan. Also known as the Travellers Palm, it is not a true palm, it actually belongs to the Bird of Paradise family of plants, the Strelitziaceae. Brilliant blue seeds are produced after pollination of it's white flowers, the only true blue seeds found in nature.
A real unique plant it's great as a patio, conservatory or atrium plant. Growing in a container will restrict it's growth, as it does grow quite large and also allow it to be moved inside during winter.
